Unlike plastic, latex balloons are a biodegradable and photodegradable plant-based product. They are crafted from natural rubber harvested from rubber tree plantations—a renewable resource. The latex is a natural product of the Rubber Tree's Cambium layer, meaning it breaks down and decays when exposed to the elements, making it an environmentally friendly choice.

At Durango Balloon Company, we are proud to offer Qualatex latex balloons, sourced from sustainable plantations certified by the Rainforest Alliance and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The Rainforest Alliance is an international, non-profit organization dedicated to conserving biodiversity, promoting sustainable agriculture, and ensuring thriving communities while addressing climate change.
Our latex balloons are crafted from natural rubber latex (NRL) harvested from Hevea Brasiliensis Pará rubber trees. These trees are grown in certified plantations, and the latex harvesting process is sustainable, as it encourages the preservation of forests. Unlike deforestation, latex production leaves trees intact, allowing them to produce latex for up to 40 years.
Research shows that latex balloons are more environmentally friendly than plastic alternatives, as they break down faster when exposed to elements like UV light, oxygen, temperature changes, and biological influences (bacteria, fungus, and algae).
